Pavilion and Stage Community Dreaming at Design Workshop #2

The second park design workshop took place on April 18th, at the future development site in AV Community Park. About 30 community members participated, and nine AV students helped lead workshop activities.

Workshop activities included:

1) Discussion and voting on a consolidated list of potential new park elements

2) (Half of participants.) Consideration of various pavilion designs, and facilitated small group discussion. Design characteristics considered included: function; shape; size; picnic table style; post style.

3) (Half of participants.) Consideration of various stage designs, a facilitated small group discussion. Design characteristics considered included: function/size; finish materials; roofing; back-drop and seating type.

4) Tour of development site and sketching possible element locations (and reasoning) on a site map.

Group discussions associated with each of the activities were lively and interesting! It was a great opportunity to exchange and debate ideas, and through collaboration formulate the best options for serving community interests.

Junior high and high school students did a beautiful job running the show, facilitating small group discussions, organizing materials behind the scenes and otherwise making the whole event work.
